Blue Chalk Media collaborated with Wondrium, to produce Solving For Zero, a feature-length documentary inspired by Bill Gates’ book, How to Avoid a Climate Disaster. The film profiles five global innovators whose organizations are fighting climate change in bold ways.
Shot across five countries in two months, the film delves into innovative climate solutions such as wind-powered freighters, sustainable cement, and carbon-free fusion power. It combines a focus on actionable innovations with an inspiring, character-driven narrative, resulting in a film that takes an honest look at the climate crisis while simultaneously sharing a hopeful vision for the future.
Solving For Zero was honoured at the 2023 Webby Awards and won Best Science and Technology Program at the 2022 Association of International Broadcaster Awards. The documentary is available for streaming now on Wondrium.
Blue Chalk Media produced Growing Floret, a documentary series for Magnolia Network, chronicling the journey of Floret Flower Farm, a world-renowned, family-run farm in Washington’s Skagit River Valley, led by founder Erin Benzkein.
Across two seasons, the series explores the themes of legacy, stewardship, and business growth through Erin’s perspective, using direct-to-camera interviews, narrations, and illustrations to foster an intimate connection with the viewers. With each season filmed over a year, Blue Chalk embraced a slow and deliberate style of storytelling using long takes and time lapses to evoke the farm’s magic.
Nominated for three Emmy Awards, Growing Floret received over 10,000 viewer responses reflecting on its impact. The series is currently available to stream on Max and Discovery+ in the United States.
